Jim
Robison is an American artist who has lived and worked in Yorkshire for the
past 25 years. He works with ceramic processes creating large scale reliefs
and sculptures. Jim Robison is interested in surface and texture, and is deeply
influenced by the contrasts of the Yorkshire landscape. His work is characterized
by a process of layering slabs of clay and overlaying slips to create rich
surfaces textured with experimental relief work, often moulded directly from
the natural environment.
Jim
Robison is based at the Booth House Gallery, which was established in 1975 as
a studio and sales outlet. The gallery is a family business and there is always
a warm welcome for customers and pottery enthusiasts. There are evening visits
for larger groups by arrangements, and week-long courses each summer. Jim Robison's
work is internationally reknowned and has been exhibited from Holmfirth to Australia.
He is the author of Large Scale Ceramics (A&C Black, 1997).
